Nowadays everyone knows AIs like ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity or Claude. You can ask them anything and they can be extremely helpful for getting contexts explained or having texts formulated. You interact with the AI in dialogue. ChatGPT has "Chat" in its name for exactly this reason. You no longer have to spend hours researching and searching for wording as before, you can simply have the AI do that quickly and immediately.
From chatbot to agent
It becomes agentic when the AI no longer just reacts to your message, but keeps running in the background and independently completes tasks. That sounds great at first, but many people are not immediately clear on what that concretely means. The easiest way is to imagine a virtual employee who works for you. For example, such an agent could automatically check your calendar for a free slot when an appointment request comes in by email, block the appointment, and confirm it with a friendly reply - without you having to do anything. At the same time, the agent can also answer customer questions and provide help.
Agents that improve themselves
That is definitely already useful. But is that all? This is where it becomes futuristic: there are already so-called self-improving AI agents, such as OpenClaw. Such an agent independently researches how it can complete a new task and rewrites itself. So it "learns" new capabilities.
There are fascinating examples of this. One directly from the inventor of OpenClaw, Peter Steinberger: while on the go, he sent his agent a voice message even though he had never built this feature. And still, a reply came. When asked, the agent explained that it had examined the file, recognized it as an audio file, and then independently searched for a way to convert it into text. When the most obvious program for that was not installed, it found an alternative and solved the problem on its own initiative. Nobody had taught it how to do that; it figured it out by itself.
Imagine it like a super-employee who, if necessary, quickly writes a small program to connect with the inventory system and the spreadsheet, enriches the data with information from the internet, and creates an interactive report for you. Such an agent is extremely useful for every company.
The problem: security and control
However, everyone has also already had experiences with AI that drew the wrong conclusion. If the agent makes wrong decisions or is misled by someone, that can have serious consequences. The internet is full of reports in which OpenClaw deletes data or spends money unintentionally.
We systematically analyzed OpenClaw and 19 other open-source AI agents and found that none of them fully meets the EU's security and data protection requirements. But especially in the EU - with lots of bureaucracy, a shortage of skilled workers, and global competitive pressure - we cannot do without this innovation.
Another problem is data flows. In conversations with AI, an astonishing number of people nowadays quite naturally send their most intimate thoughts and most valuable business secrets to the USA or even to China. We want to create a very good alternative in which your data stays in the EU.
Our approach: agentic AI that is EU-compliant
That is why we have made it our mission to develop an AI agent from the ground up so that security requirements and data protection regulations are fully met. Our goal is a self-improving agent that makes the productivity advantages of this technology usable without making compromises on compliance.
